Nellie was born in Little Harbour, Twillingate, and after completing high school moved to Gander to work for a short time before deciding to become a nurse. Using money she borrowed from her older brother John, and without telling her parents, she traveled to St. John's to complete her dream and graduated from The General Hospital School of Nursing with many lifelong friends including Maxine Bursey and Betty Johnston. The vast majority of Nellie's career was spent in Corner Brook as a Nursing Supervisor with Western Memorial Hospital where she touched many lives while raising five children. Upon retirement, Nellie and Sam moved to Glovertown to be closer to family and enjoyed many years together. In January of this year Nellie was admitted to Glenbrook Lodge with an advanced stage of dementia where medical and support personnel provided an exemplary level of care, compassion and support.

With arrangements entrusted to Oram’s Funeral Home in Glovertown, cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held at Glovertown Faith United Church on Monday July 31 at 2:00 pm with a reception following.

In lieu of flowers a memoriam may be provided to the Faith United Church in Glovertown or to a charity of your choosing.
